ChatDDE: Your Pocket Digital Evidence Expert

Justice Actors—including human rights defenders, investigators, lawyers, and judges—struggle to effectively handle increasingly sophisticated digitally derived evidence (DDE) of crimes. While resources exist, guidance remains scattered and inaccessible, creating inconsistency in our justice systems. This matters because digital evidence appears in 80-90% of criminal cases, yet widespread uncertainty leads to case dismissals, eroded trust in courts, and fails those risking their lives to collect crucial evidence.

Our Solution

ChatDDE is an intelligent, multilingual AI chatbot providing tailored digital evidence guidance for everyone. It transforms complex legal documents into actionable instructions for collecting, preserving, and submitting digital evidence, maximizing its likelihood of standing up in court. The chatbot guides users through common uncertainties—proper chain of custody, authenticating AI-generated content, handling damaged media—using trusted, verified sources with built-in safeguards and precise attribution.

Why We're Different

Unlike general legal AI tools (Harvey AI, Lexis+) focused on commercial law, ChatDDE is the only AI built specifically for digital evidence in criminal justice, grounded in expert-verified knowledge.

The Fénix founders led the creation of two of the trusted digital evidence guides that ChatDDE builds upon (the Leiden Guidelines and the Hala Protocol). Fénix and its partners have developed a working ChatDDE prototype ready for beta testing.

The Urgent Need

The 2020s' cascade of crises—from COVID to armed conflicts—has created unprecedented crime documentation needs. Justice Actors are seizing technology opportunities but face chronic underfunding. A single human rights defender may hold the only copy of evidence that could convict a dangerous criminal. ChatDDE provides the affordable, scalable solution to ensure evidence gets from crisis to courtroom intact.
