Our Projects
At Fénix Foundation, we envision a world where lawyers drive innovation in order to uphold and actualise humanitarian standards. Our projects sit at key intersection points between international justice, peace, and accountability and technology.
Digital Evidence in Domestic Courts
Digital evidence is playing an increasingly important role in the prosecution of atrocity crimes. Despite this, there is a lack of guidance on how digital material should be approached as evidence. The Digital Evidence in Domestic Courts Project addresses this problem through the creation of domestic law guidelines on digital evidence.
ChatDDE
The 2022 Leiden Guidelines on Digitally Derived Evidence (‘DDE’) in International Criminal Courts and Tribunals, hosted at at leiden-guidelines.com, serve as a primer for investigators and lawyers on how to treat different forms of DDE. Fénix and its partners have developed a generative AI chatbot that helps users to quickly navigate and apply the Leiden Guidelines and other key digital evidence resources.
Digital Evidence Trainings
The Fénix team hold a combined 30 years of experience as experts at the intersection of technology, international law, and peacebuilding, with specialized knowledge in the development of digital evidence standards. We offer virtual and in-person trainings and advisory services to help Justice Actors align their digital work practices with the evidentiary requirements of criminal courts.
Digital Evidence in the Age of AI
As generative AI technologies become more sophisticated and accessible globally, Fénix is leading two innovative projects to help guide Justice Actors in handling AI-affected evidence: 1) the development of AI evidence principles and best practices, and 2) a global, lawyer-informed database of cases involving AI-affected information.
